Mountains

Overview

At 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. You walk through five climate zones — farmland, rainforest, heath, alpine desert and arctic summit — on well-used routes that need no technical climbing.

The main challenge is altitude. Longer routes such as Machame (7 days) and Lemosho (8 days) give your body more time to adjust.

Highlights

  • Barranco Wall scramble
  • Five climate zones in one week
  • Views over the clouds to Mount Meru
