Overview

Lake Manyara sits below the Great Rift Valley escarpment. In a single drive you pass through groundwater forest with baboons and blue monkeys, open grassland with elephants and buffalo, and the soda lake shore where flamingos and pelicans gather.

It works well as a half-day stop between Arusha and the Ngorongoro highlands.

Highlights

  • Rift Valley escarpment views
  • Flamingos and pelicans (seasonal)
  • Tree-climbing lions (occasional)
  • Canoeing when water levels allow
