Machame is the most scenic of Kilimanjaro’s classic routes, crossing rainforest, heath and the high alpine desert before the final climb to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres. Seven days give your body time to adjust to the altitude, which improves your chance of reaching the top.

You climb with qualified mountain guides, a cook and porters who are paid fairly and properly equipped. Group departures leave monthly; private climbs can start any day.

Points forts

  • Stand on Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m
  • Seven days for better acclimatisation
  • Barranco Wall scramble
