The Serengeti covers almost 15,000 square kilometres of grassland, river forest and granite kopjes. It is home to more than a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra that move through the park in a yearly circle, followed by lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

The central Seronera area has excellent game all year. In the green season the herds calve on the southern plains; from July to October they cross the Mara River in the far north.

Clear skies, short grass and animals near water. Busy in the north.

Short rains (Nov–Dec)

Brief afternoon showers, green plains, fewer visitors.

Calving (Jan–Mar)

Herds on the southern plains, many newborns and active predators.

Long rains (Apr–May)

Lush and quiet with lower prices; some camps close.
