Twenty minutes from the airport, between two mountains and on the road to every park in the north — here is why so many travellers start and end their trip with us.
Most journeys through northern Tanzania begin and end in the same small stretch of country between Arusha and Moshi. International flights land at Kilimanjaro Airport, safaris set off along the Arusha road and climbers gather at the foot of the mountain. Katiti Lodge sits right in the middle of it — and that is no accident.
Twenty minutes from your flight
Kilimanjaro International Airport is about 22 km from the lodge. That means no long night drive after a long-haul flight: twenty minutes after you clear customs, you are in a quiet garden with a cold drink and a bed with crisp white linen. Our pick-up is free for guests, at any hour, and we watch your flight so the driver is there even if you land late.
The same is true on the way home. On your last day you can have a slow breakfast, a final walk in the garden or one more experience, and still be at the airport in good time for an evening departure.
Between Kilimanjaro and Meru
Kikatiti lies on the green saddle between Africa’s highest mountain and Mount Meru. On clear mornings you can see both. It is cooler here than on the coast, the evenings are fresh, and the air smells of rain and coffee. Arusha National Park is about thirty minutes away, Arusha town around forty, and Moshi about an hour.
On the road to every park
Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti all lie to the west along the same road. Safari companies collect guests from our gate every morning, and we are used to early starts: tell us your pick-up time and you will find hot coffee, a breakfast box and your bags carried to the car. While you are away, we store extra luggage free of charge.
Small on purpose
Katiti has just five bedrooms around a lantern-lit courtyard. That means you are known by name, breakfast is cooked to order, and the restaurant feels like a friend’s dining room rather than a hotel hall. It also means quiet nights — the kind of sleep you need before a climb or after a week of game drives.
Days that start at the lodge
If you have a free day, you do not need to go far. We run six experiences of our own, from a full-day safari in Arusha National Park to a gentle hike to the Materuni Waterfalls with a Chagga coffee ceremony, a day hike on Kilimanjaro’s Marangu Route, Lake Chala’s turquoise crater lake, a Maasai village visit and a walk on Mount Meru with an armed ranger.
So whether you have one night between flights or a week to explore, Katiti is the calm, well-placed home base that makes the rest of the trip easier.
