Arusha National Park is the closest park to Katiti Lodge and the most underrated in northern Tanzania. In a single day you move through four worlds: dripping mountain forest, the steep green bowl of the Ngurdoto Crater, the open glades locals call “Serengeti Ndogo” — the little Serengeti — and the shallow alkaline Momella Lakes, where flamingos feed in pink drifts.
You travel in a private 4×4 with a pop-up roof and your own driver-guide, at your own pace. Giraffe and buffalo are seen on almost every visit, along with zebra, waterbuck, warthog, dik-dik and some of the best monkey watching in East Africa: black-and-white colobus in the forest canopy and blue monkeys along the road.
Because the park is small and quiet, it is one of the few places where you can also walk. After a picnic lunch by the lakes, an armed park ranger leads an easy walking safari through the glades — a completely different way to see the bush, and a highlight for many of our guests.

Domande
Will we see the Big Five?
Arusha National Park has no lions, and elephants are shy and rarely seen. What it does better than the big parks is variety in one day: forest, crater, lakes and open glades, with giraffe and buffalo almost guaranteed and colobus monkeys you will not see in the Serengeti.
Can we combine it with arriving or leaving?
Yes. Many guests do it on their first full day, or on the last day before an evening flight from Kilimanjaro Airport — we can drop you at the airport instead of the lodge.
